Be the hands and feet of Jesus

Being a houseparent is hard work, but it is also holy work! Our houseparents are in the home with our girls teaching and demonstrating love 24/7. We recognize that this is not always a glamorous role to fill; however, there are increasing numbers of children being placed into foster care who need a loving, caring, and safe home where they can heal and grow. We are always seeking individuals and couples who are willing to serve in this role!

What to expect

  • Houseparents can expect to have up to 6 residents in their home. Our residents are generally placed in our care by the Department of Human Resources. They come from a variety of backgrounds and environments and have often experienced abuse and/or neglect.

  • All of our residents attend Cullman City Schools which are conveniently located to our campus. We have a good relationship with the school system and they are aware of our resident’s unique situations.

  • Houseparents may choose to attend any Church of Christ in the area. We ask that all of our residents attend church services and be respectful, even if they choose not to participate.

  • All of our houseparents live in homes on our campus. We have 9, single story brick homes and have recently started the process of renovating each of these homes.

  • As a houseparent at Childhaven, you will be provided with transportation, monthly grocery money, and monthly activity money. We also provide you with a free gym membership as well as access to our on-campus pool. In addition, houseparents have 24 hours of relief time each week and 5 consecutive days of relief time each month. We recognize the potential physical and emotional challenges of this role and want to ensure that all of our staff have time to refill themselves as they continuously pour into our residents.

Childhaven uses the houseparent model to provide a family home environment to our residents. We believe that healthy relationships are key to healing from past trauma.
